Report: Blues defender extends stay at Stamford Bridge

According to The Times, Branislav Ivanovic has extended his stay at Stamford Bridge, committing himself to the Blues for another year.

The Serbian will then be offered yet another one-year-deal at the end of next season, depending on how many games he features in, that season.

Ivanovic’s current deal in West London expires at the end of the current campaign, and the vice-captain has wanted a two-year-deal.

Despite the near-confirmation of the contract extension at the current Premier League champions, the Serbian has beeno offered pre-contract agreements from both Fiorentina and and fellow Serie A side, Inter Milan.

The Blues are keen to retain the services of Ivanovic, the club’s third-longest serving player. At the start of the season, Chelsea’s no.2 was struggling for consistent performances that were good enough, with supporters asking for him to be dropped. However, since then, his performance levels have picked up once and again and he seems to be a tad more comfortable both in possession and when on the defence.
