Terry: We have to keep winning games

“New Year, new start,” was the message from captain John Terry as the Blues began the process of resurrecting their season with a mightily impressive win over Crystal Palace.

Goals from Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa secured only Chelsea’s fifth league win of the season and their first under the temporary stewardship of Guus Hiddink. The three points lifted Chelsea up to 14th and Terry believes it can spark a rise up the table.

New year, new start. We have to keep winning games. We’ve had a couple of draws of late and we are delighted with three points today and that’s the feeling we want. It was unfortunate what happened [with Jose Mourinho leaving] and we feel let everyone down. Guus has picked everyone up and we’ve gone again.

Unfortunately it didn’t happen early in the season but we are where we are and we’re climbing the table. We’ve known we have to get better and have done, slowly but surely. If we can put run of games together, who knows [where we can end up].

The win leaves Chelsea 12 points off fourth spot and Graeme Souness feels they are capable of finishing in the Champions League space.

Since he [Hiddink] came in we’ve been working very hard in training. The atmosphere has changed a bit and the players seem more relaxed. We need to play like that every week and get where we should be in the league table.
