Napoli striker Higuain turned down a £40m move to Chelsea

According to the Daily Mail, striker Gonzalo Higuain has rejected a Chelsea move during January’s transfer window because the Argentinian wasn’t guaranteed a first team choice ahead of Diego Costa.

Chelsea was ready to offer £40 million on the former Real Madrid star, but Guus Hiddink unwilling to assure him a place in the starting line-up, the Blues’ hopes to land the the Serie A leading goalscorer fell through.

Higuain – who will remain in Chelsea’s shortlist over the summer, currently has 26 goals in 28 appearances this season placing the Naples club on top of the league.

Diego Costa has gained Hiddink’s trust by scoring 7 goals since the Dutchman’s arrive to replace the sacked José Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international though is targeted by Atletico Madrid who look to re-sign the center forward, which might follow to another Chelsea bid on Higuain.
