Conte wants Bayern star as first Chelsea signing

Antonio Conte wants to make Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal his first signing should he take charge of Chelsea in the summer, The Express report.

The Italy manager signed the midfielder whilst at Juventus and worked with him for three years before leaving to manage the national side.

The 28 year-old would reportedly command a £30 million fee from the Blues and recent reports suggest Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will give Conte a £130 million pound war chest to rebuild the squad following a disastrous season.

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is also reportedly a target for Conte should he make the move to West London.

One obstacle could be the lack of Champions League football on offer. Chelsea’s loss to PSG on Wednesday evening means they are unlikely to be participating in top level European competition next campaign.

Chelsea are unlikely to be playing Champions League football next season following the loss to PSG and with the top four seemingly out of sight.

Manchester United offered the Chilean international the chance to move to the Premier League last summer before he joined the German champions:

Yes, there was a chance to come to England.

It was last summer, and at one point, we thought that is what would happen.

I liked the opportunity that they had offered me, but eventually it did not happen and I chose to come to Bayern.

Chelsea certainly require a rebuilding process following their awful campaign across all competitions, apart from the FA Cup, in which they face Everton on Saturday evening.

However, Vidal has finally started to find form at Bayern Munich following his €37 million move from Juventus last summer, and would surely look unfavourably at a move to crisis-stricken Chelsea at this time.

Roma’s Belgian international Radja Nainggolan seems to be a more realistic midfield target for the Blues as they look to recover from a somewhat inexplicable season.
