Willian still targeting Champions League glory

Chelsea winger Willian believes his side still has what it takes to lift the Champions League trophy this season.

The Blues face Paris Saint-Germain in a crunch match on Wednesday evening, with Guus Hiddink’s trailing 2-1 from the first leg three weeks ago.

Chelsea would progress with a 1-0 victory this time around, but they have struggled to keep clean sheets at home in recent weeks, only preventing Scunthorpe from scoring at Stamford Bridge since Hiddink’s return to the club.

However, Chelsea’s standout man so far this season believes that the Blues have enough to not only defeat the French champions, but to lift the trophy itself in May.

I think we can win it. It will be difficult because there are so many good teams.

We have to think about Wednesday first and then step by step we can go to the final.

It’s the biggest game of the season. We know that. We have to show our quality in the game. It will be difficult for us, but I think we can win.

We have great quality, they have as well. Games like this are 50/50.

We know they want the ball and to keep possession but we have to put them under pressure and press.

We are more confident because we play at home. I think we can do that. It will be difficult but we can qualify.

With Chelsea sitting 10th in the Premier League and way off of the top four, winning the Champions League would be their only route back into Europe’s elite competition next season.

They also look set to focus on the FA Cup, and Willian recognises the importance of silverware to a club of Chelsea’s stature.

There is always pressure at Chelsea to win titles, we know that.

To give Guus one title will be great for us and for him, so we will try to give him one trophy to go with.

Hiddink won the FA Cup with the Blues during his spell in charge in 2009, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-final and being controversially knocked out by Barcelona.

Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012 despite their poor league position – they finished 6th that year – and were under the interim rule of Roberto Di Matteo.
