Chelsea and Manchester City to battle it out for Paul Pogba’s signature

Chelsea are reportedly set to enter a transfer battle with Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signing of Juventus star Paul Pogba, Manchester Evening News reports.

The 22-year-old, who is hailed as one of the best players in the world currently, is a top transfer target for the incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola this summer.

However, the Blues are also ready to launch a bid for the Frenchman as Antonio Conte is believed to be doing his most to land the starlet to his new Chelsea side.

The Italian manager was a huge part of the former Manchester United player’s development, as Conte succeeded to win two Serie A titles in two years with Pogba, before leaving the Turin based club for Italy’s national team.

Reports suggest that Pogba has privately admitted that it’s the right time for him to leave Juventus, but has publicly stated otherwise and is committing his future for the club.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have also shown great interest for the player, but the staggering £80 million asking price has cooled their pursuit for the midfielder.

Whether the Blues or City are able to land the player with the mentioned price, the transfer fee would be a new British transfer record as it stands.

The price is similar to what Real Madrid offered for Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009, which was a world record transfer fee at the time.
