Sunderland vs Chelsea – Match Preview

Preview

Chelsea make the long trip North to Sunderland this weekend, in what is expected to be an extremely tough match.

The Blues will face a tricky test against Sunderland, who are in desperate need of 3 points in order to stay up in the Premier League, their fans will certainly create an intimidating atmosphere which will add to the task too.

However Chelsea head into the game off the back of a good result against Tottenham. The Blues fought from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Eden Hazard being the game changer after coming on in the second half. The draw also meant we officially ended any hope of Tottenham winning the league, a result which will be remembered for years to come over our bitter rivals which is bound to give us confidence tomorrow too.

Eden Hazard has dramatically picked up his form across the last two games having scored three goals. Arguably he has had two man of the match displays in them games too. Hiddink started the Belgian on the bench last Monday but tomorrow the Dutchman has to start him to give us the best possibility of claiming 3 points.

One man to look out for, for Sunderland will certainly be Jermain Defoe. The striker has been in excellent form in 2016 and in my eyes should be in contention for the Euros. He won Sunderland a point from the spot last week against Stoke and Terry will certainly be looking to keep him quiet tomorrow.

Come on Chelsea!

Match Details

Saturday, 7th May, kick off at 3:00pm (UK Time) at Stadium of Light.

Recent Form

Across the last 5 matches, Sunderland have only managed to pick up one win which came at Norwich as they won 3-0, they have only lost one too which came against the Premier League Champions – Leicester. Games against West Brom, Arsenal and Stoke all resulted in draws

Chelsea however have won two of their last five matches coming against Aston Villa then Bournemouth. We have lost two against Man City and Swansea with a draw on Monday night to Tottenham.

Team News

Guus Hiddink reported there are no fresh injuries which means the only two players missing for Chelsea tomorrow are Loic Remy and Kurt Zouma with Thibaut Courtois also back from suspension.

Billy Jones is the only injury for Sunderland too.

My Prediction

Sunderland 2-2 Chelsea
