Chelsea announced their second signing of the summer yesterday, when Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kanté agreed a 5-year-deal with the West London club.
However that doesn’t seem to be it for Chelsea’s interest on the last season’s Premier League champions, as according to ESPN, Riyad Mahrez is another Leicester star linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
As good as Kanté was as a signing for The Blues, being able to bring Mahrez the same way would definitely make Chelsea serious title contenders.
Mahrez won the PFA Player of the Year award after a sensational campaign for The Foxes last season, and Chelsea could line him up on the opposite flank to Eden Hazard to form one of the deadliest wing combinations in the league.
According to Express, Mahrez is braced to turn down a £100,000-a-year contract extension to stay at Leicester, as Chelsea are monitoring the winger who was signed from Le Havre for £350,000 in 2014.
Antonio Conte has made his intentions of wanting to sign the 25-year-old clear, but Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is ‘very’ confident that the player will stay at the club.
I am very confident with him. He stays here with us.
He enjoys it and is not a man saying ‘coach I want to go’. He is happy.
Chelsea will face tough competition from Arsenal and Barcelona to sign Mahrez, as the Algerian’s performances last season have really turned the heads all around Europe.
