Michy Batshuayi officially signs for Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi has today officially completed his move to Chelsea for a fee believed to be in the region of €40m according to French newspaper L’Equipe.

After lots of talks and negotiations going in the last few weeks with players such as Andre Gomes and Radja Nainggolan, the 22 year old Belgian has emerged from nowhere to become the first signing of the Conte era. With the first signing completed, the club will hopefully push on to bring a few more names through the door before the season kicks off.

Batshuayi has similar routes to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who in the fact was also signed from Marseille. If he can become half the player Drogba was for Chelsea, we certainly have a great player within our squad.

In total Batshuayi has managed to score 77 goals in 198 games for his two previous clubs, Standard Liege and Marseille. Added to this he has mustered up 6 caps for Belgium and scored on 3 occasions including one against Hungary in the last 16 of this summer’s Euros in France.

He also managed to score an impressive 17 goals for Marseille last season despite the club struggling and only finishing in 13th.

Therefore Chelsea can expect a bright future for the 22 year old who has already taken steps to proving himself on the big stage. It may be too soon for him to nudge Diego Costa out of the starting eleven, however Conte may even decide to use the two together in a 3-5-2 formation which he has been known for using in the past and with his current side – Italy.

The deal is also a similar one in which we signed Willian. Sky Sports have reported in the last couple of days that Crystal Palace had made a €38m bid for the player, while the Daily Mail also reported yesterday that he was set to sign for Tottenham!

Despite having yet to kick a ball for Chelsea, fans will be pleased he snubbed our rivals and saw the light to join the bigger and better club in London.
