Chelsea look to break transfer record on Napoli defender

It has been one of the longest saga’s of the 2016 summer transfer window, but Chelsea could be set to land their top defensive target in Kalidou Koulibaly with a club transfer record bid of £60 million, according to The Telegraph.

After Chelsea’s atrocious 2015/16 campaign, which concluded in the side conceding 50+ goals in the league, new manager Antonio Conte will be hoping that the board can secure his main target in the closing weeks of the window.

The most frequent question asked about Conte’s arrival is what formation the Italian will utilize in England. In his first game against West Ham he used 4-1-4-1 then 4-2-4 as his side searched for the winning goal, but if Koulibaly comes to Stamford Bridge, Conte may look to use his preferred three at the back formation.

With Kurt Zouma’s return from injury being sooner rather than later, Koulibaly will add further competition in defence for Cahill and John Terry who is in the twilight years of his career.

It has been reported that Koulibaly is becoming increasingly frustrated with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis, and is looking for a move away from Naples.
