Chelsea plotting £22m bid for Ricardo Rodriguez

The Blues have a void to fill in the left-back’s position after Baba Rahman made a loan switch to Bundesliga side Schalke.

This has put Antonio Conte back on the transfer market to look for replacements, as Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez has caught the Italian’s eye, Mirror reports.

Chelsea are plotting a bid for the £22m-rated Switzerland international, before the transfer window closes at the beginning of September.

Currently Chelsea’s versatile full-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who was initially signed for the right-back’s position, is the only senior player available for the role.

According to reports Chelsea have also focused their attention on Germany international Jonas Hector, after impressing for Joachim Löw’s side in Euro 2016.

FC Köln left-back Jonas Hector is also a major target for Antonio Conte's Chelsea.

Rodriguez on the other hand has already told Wolfsburg’s club chiefs that he wants to leave the Bundesliga side this summer.

Arsenal, AS Roma and Real Madrid have all shown major interest in the 23-year-old free-kick specialist, but Chelsea have emerged as one of his possible destinations for willing to pay his £22m release-clause.

In his four years with the club, Rodriguez has played in over 150 games, scoring 20 goals, since joining from FC Zurich in 2012.
