Juventus give up on Chelsea midfielder after Conte steps in

It seems that Nemanja Matic won’t be moving to Turin this summer, as Antonio Conte has persuaded the midfielder to ignore the temptation of Juventus and stay at Chelsea, Di Marzio reports.

Juventus, who already were pessimistic about the deal ever going through, accept the rejection and are ready to turn for other targets, with PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi reportedly the second alternative.

It’s understood that Conte sees Matic as a valuable player in the team and is ready to put a lot of trust on his shoulders this season.

The Italian described the 28-year-old as one of the best players at Chelsea tactically and wants to keep him with any cost, as it’s uncertain if there are still midfielders departing this summer.

Matic himself was happy to hear praise from the new gaffer, and hopes to fulfill Conte’s expectations of him next campaign.

What the manager said gave me a special feeling. It was important for me to know I am a big part of his plans. I was happy to hear that.

Should no other team step in and try to deprive Matic from Conte’s plans, the Serbian is likely to remain at the club over this season.
