Conte: ‘David Luiz will start against Liverpool’

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Chelsea’s newest summer signing David Luiz will start against Liverpool tomorrow as he will replace the injured John Terry at the back.

On his pre-match interview for Chelsea’s official website, the Italian told what kind of a test he expects from the arriving Liverpool side.

A strong match, very tough against a strong team. I think Liverpool are a really good team. They play with high intensity, they bring many players in offensive situations, they are very good.

We must play with great expectations tomorrow because we know they are very strong.

David Luiz re-joined Chelsea, after spending two years in France with Paris Saint-Germain, and will be making his second debut on the first match of Premier League season’s gameweek number five.

Conte says he puts his full faith in the Brazilian, who will be replacing the team captain John Terry, as he suffered a 10-day injury after rolling over his ankle against Swansea last weekeend.

John strained the ligament of his ankle, the doctor told me after 10 days he could be available to come back. He is working very hard and today he had a training session to recover.

Tomorrow, David Luiz will play for the first time with us and we are confident about him.

We expect him to play very well, we know he’s a good player. We are working to put him in the best condition to give us the best of him.

When new players arrive they need time to adapt to a new concept but tomorrow we need to play David Luiz. He’s worked a lot on defensive situations and when we are in possession. I have confidence in him.

Ahead of Conte’s first competitive match against Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, the ex-Juventus has praised the German manager and his team’s solid start to the season, despite a disappointing 2-0 loss to Burnley in their second match of the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp is a good manager, one of the best in the world. He’s showing his capacity to be a great manager.

I know him but not much. We played against each other only once, in pre-season, but he’s a fantastic manager and I’ll be glad to see him tomorrow.

Klopp himself has also praised Antonio Conte, labeling him as the ‘Pep Guardiola of Juventus’.

The match will kick-off at 0800 pm tomorrow evening at Stamford Bridge, and we will cover the game for you live on our live blog.
