Terry leaves Liberty stadium on crutches

John Terry left the Liberty Stadium on crutches after sustaining an ankle injury late in our 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

Terry fell to the floor in agony as the full time whistle blew, before limping off down the tunnel in clear discomfort.

After the game, he was spotted leaving the ground on crutches with a bandage wrapped round his left ankle – a worrying sight for Chelsea fans.

The injury could leave us without our captain for Friday’s game with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte revealed that we will not know the severity of the damage to Terry’s ankle until he is fully assessed tomorrow.

He was an unused substitute today, but David Luiz could be called upon sooner than expected if the injury is a serious as it appears.

Our center-back situation could soon take a turn for the worse if the FA choose to punish Gary Cahill after he took to Twitter to vent his frustration over what he felt was poor officiating from referee Andre Marriner.

Cahill tweeted footage that appears to show Leroy Fer kicking the back of the England international’s legs, allowing a clear run at goal for the Swansea midfielder – who finished past Thibaut Courtois to put his side ahead.

Issuing bans to Chelsea players has historically been high on the to-do list for the FA chiefs, so the possibility of being without both of our current first-choice center-backs simultaneously is a real one.

As we await further updates, we keep our fingers crossed that Terry makes a speedy recovery.
