Abraham proves why he’s England’s most promising striker

Tammy Abraham made his first start for England under-21s yesterday and, in true Abraham fashion, he marked the occasion with two goals and a brilliant performance, proving he is quickly on his way to the top.

The 19 year-old, unfazed by the occasion of his full debut at Under-21 level, made the step-up from the under-20s seem absolutely effortless as he showcased his terrific movement and clinical finishing in an emphatic 5-0 white-washing inflicted by the Young Lions on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He opened his account after converting the loose ball in acrobatic fashion to put England two goals ahead after former blue John Swift started the goal fest with an excellent long-range effort.

The Chelsea loanee marked his second goal in the second half with an audaciously cool chip over the keeper after being put through on goal, thanks to his own very clever run and Sunderland’s Duncan Watmore’s good pass.

Pundits were comparing Abraham’s performance to that of Marcus Rashford’s recent display for the Under-21s, though the young forward was denied his chance to emulate the Manchester United man’s hat-trick hero debut as he was substituted shortly after doubling his tally.

Abraham, named Championship player of the month for September, can add his fine display to an already incredible season, having now notched 13 goals in all competitions this season.

Abraham, after helping Chelsea to back-to-back Under-19 Uefa Youth League and FA Youth Cup triumphs last term, has made a remarkable ascendancy to senior football with Bristol City and is now making similar strides in the England set-up.

With this rate of progression, could it be Tammy’s time at Chelsea next term? And if so, can he make an England senior debut seem as seamless? Let’s hope so!
