Conte determined to land £49m Romagnoli

After being rebuffed with several bids this summer, Chelsea are prepared to go back to trying to lure AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli with a big-money move in January, The Sun reports.

Despite Antonio Conte’s latest acquirement in David Luiz on a £30m deal, the Italian is still keen on bringing more center-halves to Stamford Bridge.

Milan value the 21-year-old defender worth £49m and according to reports, Chelsea could be willing to pay that sum for Romagnoli’s signature.

Conte has suffered plenty of headache with defensive issues this season, as David Luiz is still re-adapting to the pace of the Premier League, while Gary Cahill has had troubles regaining his best form and captain John Terry is struggling with minor injuries.

Chelsea have had Romagnoli in their aim since this spring before Conte’s arrival, but have had plenty of offers turned down by the San Siro side – with the latest reported around £35m in late August.

The youngster made 33 appearances last season after completing a £17m move from Sampdoria.
