Chelsea cult hero set to consider his future with the Blues after 372 appearances

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is considering his future after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, report the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail report that he is prepared to leave the club in January if presented with an offer that matches his demands.

Mikel has made 372 appearances for the Blues since joining in the summer of 2006. He emerged as somewhat of a cult hero among the Chelsea faithful.

The Nigerian had to wait 185 games for his first Premier League goal for the Blues. When it finally came, his team-mates could scarcely believe it.

It makes complete sense that Mikel would be considering leaving. There are no suggestions that he is going to push past Nemanja Matic or N’Golo Kante in the pecking order. In fact, it appears that he is even behind academy prodigy Nathaniel Chalobah in the competition for playing time.

At 29-years-old he is still within his peak years, and it would be a shame to see them wasted as he rots in the reserves.

After lifting the Premier League title twice, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Community Shield, the Europa League and, of course, the Champions League – Mikel would leave one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
