Now that Antonio Conte has settled in at Stamford Bridge, it seems that standard procedure is to link him with every last Serie A player who becomes available.
In the summer it was Nikola Maksimovic and Kalidou Koulibaly, then it was Marcelo Brozovic, and now, it seems, it’s Amadou Diawara.
The defensive midfielder only joined Napoli in the summer, but is already being linked with a move to west London. It’s not clear quite where he would fit in – Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante have the two central midfield spots pretty firmly tied down at the moment, and the Blues also have Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah ready to slot in at any moment.
One fact that won’t impress Chelsea fans is that the source for these stories is Tuttosport, who only a few months ago were claiming that Diawara’s move from Bologna to the Championship’s Aston Villa was a done deal.
