Chelsea plan on tying Diego Costa down to a new contract in a bid to fend off former club Atletico Madrid, according to the Mirror.
The Mirror report that Atletico have tried to re-sign Costa in each of the last three transfer windows and that Chelsea are prepared to increase his £150,000-a-week wages in hope of fending off the La Liga giants.
Costa has become a cornerstone in our side signing joining in the summer of 2014. He is also the Premier League’s top goalscorer so far this campaign having found the back of the net nine times in his opening 11 appearances.
It comes as no surprise that Atletico are reportedly interested in bringing him back to the Vicente Calderon. Costa scored 27 league goals throughout the 2013/14 campaign as they lifted their first league title for 18 years.
Antonio Conte will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of him, though, it’d be difficult to put a price on Costa’s contribution. Not only does he directly contribute to more goals than any other Chelsea player, but he is one of very few within our ranks that can grab a game by the scruff of it’s neck and turn it in our favour.
