Chelsea midfielder Oscar is being actively linked with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan and according to Turkish media outlet HaberTurk, the Blues could swoop for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu as a replacement for the Brazilian.
It’s reported that Oscar would be available for a fee around £20m, and the Turkish midfielder at the same price – £17m – the newspaper claims. However, manager Antonio Conte ahs told the player wouldn’t be leaving any time soon.
Calhanoglu has told the head coach of Turkey’s national team Fatih Terim about his potential move to West London on the last international break, but no contact between the clubs is yet to be made.
Dubbed as one of the best free-kick takers in modern football, the 22-year-old is one of manager Roger Schmidt’s key players in the Bayer squad and has three goals and three assists to his name this season, having played 12 games in total.
As tempting as it would be to sign new players and replace the old dust from the locker room, Calhanoglu wouldn’t bring anything else than a slight upgrade to the quality of Willian’s free-kicks. Oscar, should he prefer to stay and fight for his place, is a way more capable option, able to fill the spot in Conte’s two-man midfield.
