Chelsea’s striker bid confirmed but his club will hold out for £30.5M

Sampdoria have received a bid from Chelsea for striker Luis Muriel according to the club’s president, report IBTimes.

IBTimes report that Sampdoria chief Massimo Ferrero has confirmed that Muriel has been subject of an offer from Chelsea, but he insisted that they will hold out for his full buyout clause which stands at a hefty £30.5 million.

It’s also reported that the Blues will face competition from Napoli in their efforts to sign Muriel, but the Italian side are yet to make a formal offer for the Colombian.

Muriel emerged as one of the most exciting strikers in Europe during his time at Udinese, but his progress has been stunted and he hasn’t developed into the player many expected him to become. He has made a steady start to this campaign, having scored four goals and providing one assist in his opening 12 Serie A appearances.

Antonio Conte still has just two first-team strikers at his disposal in Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi. Muriel would likely be third choice and thus it seems nonsensical to spend such an inflated figure.
