Diego Costa injury concerns grow more serious

Diego Costa missed Spain training again today, having been absent yesterday too. It means that concerns over an injury initially described in the Spanish press as a groin problem are becoming more serious. The striker is now a doubt for his adopted country’s game against Macedonia on Saturday.

According to the Metro, the 28 year old took part in tactical walkthroughs but did not take any part in the proper session, instead working one on one with Spain’s physio.

The Metro report that Spain hope to have Costa fit in time to play some part against England on Tuesday. Alvaro Morata is ready to fill in against Macedonia, with Aritz Aduriz also pressing for a place after scoring 5 in a game in the Europa League.

As it stands, the injury doesn’t sound too serious. But the last thing Chelsea fans would want is for Costa to play on Saturday and make things worse. Then he really could be a doubt for next weekend’s game against Boro at the Riverside.
