Frank Lampard has emerged as favourite for the MK Dons job after a sudden surge in betting, according to the Mirror.
The former Chelsea midfielder announced this week that he will be leaving New York FC at the end of his current contract.
Lampard has not even confirmed that he will be hanging up his boots, and it seems that lots of people are jumping to conclusions on his future. In reality it’s as likely to be a bookmaker’s stunt as Antonio Conte’s sacking was a couple of months ago.
MK Dons have been without a manager for some time, and there’s no doubt that Lampard will interest many English clubs given his reputation as an intelligent and well-liked player. Starting in League 1 and working his way up the divisions would be a typically savvy move from the Blues legend.
There won’t be many Chelsea fans who don’t hope that Frank one days comes back to manage at the Bridge. In the meantime, the sooner he gets to work gaining experience in the lower divisions the better. Let’s hope there’s more to this rumour than just idle international break speculation.
