Blues eye up German talent on the verge of first cap

Chelsea are interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Benjamin Henrichs, according to reports in the German press.

The 19-year-old has made 14 appearances this season across both the Bundesliga and Champions League. His good performances have lead to increased interest in his services, most notably from Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Bild.

Now would be a good time to try and push through a deal for the teenager, as he has received a call up to the Germany senior squad, and will almost certainly see his price rise upon receiving a senior cap.

With Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry coming to the end of their time at Stamford Bridge it’s not surprising to see the Blues preparing for the future by keeping tabs on young defenders across Europe.

If Henrichs can keep up his impressive progress this seems like a realistic transfer for the summer, or perhaps even in January. Antonio Conte now has another reason to keep an eye on the German team’s fixture against Italy on Tuesday night.
