Chelsea ace linked with La Liga transfer

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been linked with a £2m move to Manchester United in intention to reunite with his former boss José Mourinho, but according to Nigerian sports website Allnigeriasoccer.com, the Blues outcast could be offered a chance to join La Liga side Valencia next summer.

The captain of Nigeria’s national team was a target for the Spanish club last summer, but a deal was never struck due to the player’s high wage demands. However, Valencia could land the 29-year-old with a bargain deal at the end of the season as the player’s contract is set to expire then, meaning he can negotiate a deal with a new club as early as in January.

Mourinho and United could make a bid for the player already in the upcoming winter transfer window as they view Mikel as the perfect instructor to get the best out of Paul Pogba, who is yet to prove his worth after making a world-record move from Juventus to Old Trafford last summer.

Turkish side Besiktas have also emerged to show interest on signing Mikel, who is currently on his 11th season at Stamford Bridge – the second-longest serving player at the club right after John Terry.
