Chelsea defender linked with Villas-Boas reunion in China

Chelsea skipper John Terry is reportedly wanted by the ex-Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas at Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG on January’s transfer window, The Mirror claims.

Terry’s current Blues deal, which he extended by 12 months at the end of last season despite the heavy drop in weekly salary, is appearance-based. However, he hasn’t made many during this term’s Premier League campaign after losing his place in the starting eleven following his ankle injury at the beginning of the season.

Villas-Boas, who is best known as the manager who led Chelsea to the epic Champions League triumph on season 2011-2012 before being replaced by assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo, recently took a big-money job in the Far East and is now keen on bringing his old friend Terry to the team.

Shanghai SIPG will be trying to lure the Chelsea skipper during the upcoming winter window, but they could be put to wait till the end of the season. Terry – having already rejected a numerous pile of offers from China and elsewhere before signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge – could see out the rest of his deal in the hope of helping his beloved Chelsea in the title race for his fifth Premier League trophy.

Terry’s move would unlikely make a big financial difference to Chelsea, so keeping him as a mental support for the rest of the players in the locker room, is the right decision from the club.
