The incredible numbers behind Chelsea’s last six games

Chelsea will top the Premier League table at the end of gameweek 12 after Diego Costa’s first-half goal proved enough to edge past a resilient Middlesbrough.

The numbers behind the Blues’ recent purple patch are quite incredible. The Boro victory made it six wins on the bounce in the league for Antonio Conte’s side and a sixth clean-sheet in a row for goal-keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea have now not conceded a goal for nine hours and 55 minutes, their longest run since 2005 under the management of Jose Mourinho. After Boro fired blanks, Courtois recorded his seventh clean-sheet of the season so far, no goalkeeper in any of Europe’s top five leagues have kept more this term.

At the opposite end of the field, Diego Costa scored his tenth league goal of the season in only his 12th appearance. Last campaign, the Spaniard scored 12 goals in 28 games – he is back to his brilliant best. In addition to his goals, the 28-year-old has recorded three assists, that means he’s directly contributed to 13 goals in 12 games. He’s unstoppable at the moment.

This untouchable run of form has taken Chelsea to the summit of English football, and if we continue to play this way – we may well stay there.
