Nathaniel Chalobah is living the dream at the moment. The 21-year-old, who has been at Chelsea since he was ten, has been shown a level of faith by Antonio Conte that no manager previously could match.
He has been shipped out on loan in recent seasons to clubs ranging from Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest to Serie A giants Napoli. Barring his spell at Watford in the 2012/13 season, you wouldn’t say that any have been particularly worthwhile.
Since taking the managers job in the summer, Conte has reiterated the belief he has in Chalobah, and his actions have matched his words. He handed the youngster his Chelsea first-team debut against Leicester in September, and he has subsequently made four more appearances.
We saw a glimpse of Chalobah’s quality in the 3-0 demolition of Leicester City, as he setup Victor Moses with an audacious back-heel assist.
He has given us another taste of what he can do while training with the England U21 side. The ball fell to him on the edge of the box and he struck it sweetly into the top-right corner of the net. It was a goal near-identical to Paul Pogba’s strike against Swansea at the weekend. Take a look at this beauty.
