Chelsea and Manchester City have both been charged for not being able to control their players in the Premier League fixture between the two clubs on Saturday afternoon at Etihad Stadium.
While Manchester City players Sergio Agüero and Fernandinho were sent off for their actions on the final stages of the game in a brawl which included around 30 players, staff members and stewards, Chelsea midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah have escaped any further prohibition.
Fabregas slapped Fernandinho, while Chalobah pushed Agüero down. Agüero has been banned for four league games after a horrific tackle on Chelsea’s David Luiz, while Fernandinho is set to miss three games for shoving Fabregas over an advertising hoarding in retaliation and grabbing his throat.
The FA released their statement which said that Chelsea and Man City will have until 6pm on 8th December to respond to the charge of their violation to the Rule E20.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been charged for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.
It follows an incident in the 95th minute of the game on Saturday [December 3 2016]. Bo Decth clubs have until 6pm on 8 December 2016 to respond to the charge.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas will not face any further action in relation to an incident involving City’s Fernandinho.
Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite referees. Each referee panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence. For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.
