Could Chelsea swap Fabregas for Nainggolan?

Cesc Fabregas is trying hard to make himself a first-choice midfielder in Antonio Conte’s Chelsea system, but is continuously being linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international made only his second league start of the season in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Manchester City two weeks ago, as he replaced the injured Nemanja Matic in midfield. He returned to the bench for the upcoming game against West Brom on Sunday afternoon, but made his mark once again with the assist to Diego Costa’s winning goal.

However, Il Tiempo is now suggesting AS Roma to be keen on Fabregas. According to the Italian newspaper Roma are ready to use one of their three players in a swap deal for the ex-Barcelona man, listing German defender Antonio Rudiger, Greek center-back Kostas Manolas and Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan available for the switch.

Conte has shown interest for all of these players since joining the West London club this summer, but was closest to capture the 28-year-old midfielder from the three transfer targets.

The Italian manager is also hopeful of adding reinforcements to his defensive ranks, but Roma want to keep hold of their key players, and unless someone like Fabregas is added to the deal, Chelsea can forget making any business between the Serie A side.

Nainggolan is a year younger than Fabregas (29) and more suitable for Conte’s two-man midfield with his work-rate and defensive awareness. Regardless of that, it wouldn’t be wise to let someone go, who we still need service from.
