Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua are plotting a mega-money move for Chelsea skipper John Terry, who has fallen down in Antonio Conte’s pecking order this season, The Sun reports.
According to the English media outlet the side from Far East are hopeful of bringing the player into the club this January to team up with his former Chelsea team-mate Gus Poyet, who took over as the team manager just two weeks ago.
The 36-year-old is unlikely going to be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge, as his current contract comes to its end at the end of the season. Terry is still not thinking of retiring from his footballing career just yet, even though he has begun to complete his coaching badges on Chelsea’s junior level.
The pre-season in China starts in January – a month before the official campaign – meaning that the former England captain wouldn’t need to spend even a year away from home.
It would be sad to see Terry go as prematurely as six months before the end of his contract, but a £11.9m transfer fee (after tax) for a player who’s close to be set free is a rather tempting offer to think about.
