Chelsea have emerged as favourites to land Woflsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez this January, with the Blues reportedly opening the transfer talks with the Swiss international’s agent this morning, The Sun claims.
The January transfer window opened just three days ago, and if changes are needed to be made, they’re the best to be handled as soon as possible. This is clearly what Chelsea are trying to do with Rodriguez, as he’s already a major target for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side, who have been monitoring the defender for the past few months now.

The 24-year-old has impressed Antonio Conte in the Bundesliga this season and the manager sees him as a perfect fit for the 3-4-3 system. Chelsea’s summer signing Marcos Alonso has done brilliantly in the left wing-back’s position so far, but he’s currently the only one able to cover that position at the moment.
Therefore the Blues are desperate for some soft-tuning in the defensive ranks, as even last season’s left-back, Cesar Azpilicueta, has moved into a more central role in the heart of the Blues defence.
Rodriguez has the ability to make driven runs up and down the left-hand side, and is brilliant with his feet and can pull match-deciding assists or even goals from set-pieces. He was a transfer target for Chelsea and Real Madrid last summer, but the Switzerland international decided to remain at Woflsburg.
