Chelsea make second bid for major target

Chelsea have made a second bid for Celtic’s Craig Gordon, according to reports in the Scottish Sun today.

The Blues made their bid for the stopper before Celtic’s record breaking 4-0 win against Hearts, although Gordon himself was unaware till after the game.

The 34 year old is waiting to hear whether his club will accept the bid from the Blues or turn it down, as they did the first sum offered.

With 18 months left on his deal Gordon could easily be forced to stay, but the most sensible reaction from the club would perhaps be to offer the Scotsman a new contract – he apparently wants four years.

Chelsea’s first bid was apparently around £2.5, and that has not been considered nearly enough. This second bid was likely closer to £5m.

Asmir Begovic’s move to Bournemouth is all hinging on whether Chelsea can get a replacement in, meaning that there are several players and clubs holding their breath over this second bid.

The transfer window closes at midnight tomorrow, and you can expect plenty more on this story before then.
