Chelsea sell striker with 0 appearances for £10m

Young Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford is undergoing a medical this morning ahead of a £10m move to Middlesbrough.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who claim that the striker is on the verge of completing a move back to the club where he enjoyed his most productive season in 2014/2015.

Bamford, at that point fresh from success in the Chelsea youth teams, played a key role in firing the North East club to the Championship playoff final, where they fell agonisingly short of victory.

At that point Bamford’s star couldn’t have been brighter, and there were repeated calls for him to the be next English regular for Chelsea. But a series of unsuccessful loans to Derby, Crystal Palace, Norwich and now Burnley have stunted his development, and he leaves without having played a single competitive senior game for the Blues.

Bamford and many Chelsea fans who have followed his progress will hope that a move back to Teesside helps reignite a career that has totally ground to a halt. It won’t be easy to get back into the Boro side now they have Alvaro Negredo leading the line, but there are clearly still people at the club who rate the young Englishman and believe he still has a shot at making it at the top level.
