After more than ten years, curtain is coming down on the Jon Obi Mikel era at Chelsea.
The Nigerian midfielder has been linked with an exit for some months now, having barely appeared under Antonio Conte.
While China seemed an option for a while, it seems as though Mikel will be staying a little closer to home according to reports on Football Espana.
Valencia’s sporting director Garcia Pitarch confirmed that he had flown to London to meet with Mikel and try and convince him to join Valencia.
“In the case of Obi Mikel, with Chelsea’s permission, I met with him in London on Christmas day,†he explained.
“I informed him of the option [of joining Valencia]. He said he would think about it.”
It won’t have been an easy sell, with the team currently managerless, in the relegation zone, and with Inter Milan and Marseille also hoping to secure the former Lyn Oslo man’s services.
Mikel has made 374 appearance for the Blues since arriving in the summer of 2006, and has scored 6 times in that period.
