Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is close to penning a contract extension amid interest from one of La Liga’s biggest sides, report The Sun.
Matic had a season to forget last time around, but since Antonio Conte took the reigns at Stamford Bridge in the summer window, he has been back to his best form. As well as reaffirming his status as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, the Serb has improved his distribution from the pit of the midfield, seeing him become a more accomplished midfielder than many expected he could.
His good performances under Conte’s stewardship have appeared to capture the attention of one of Chelsea’s fellow European heavyweights. According to The Sun, Barcelona are interested in securing Matic’s services and sent scouts to see him play against West Ham on Monday night.
However, The Sun believe that Chelsea are aware of the Catalan giants’ interest and have subsequently offered Matic a contract extension until 2021, which he is expected to sign. Great news.
