According to former Chelsea assistant Ray Wilkins, Antonio Conte is seeking for a new coach to his side and is planning to make an offer for ex-Italy international Andrea Pirlo.
The Blues’s current assistant manager Steve Holland is reportedly set to take a full-time job as the assistant manager of England’s national team, and Conte is targeting the current New York City FC midfielder for the Englishman’s replacement.
Pirlo hasn’t hung up the boots just yet, but the time is believed to be quite close, and Conte wants to be the first to capture him once he finally decides to take on to the next stage in his career.
Conte managed Pirlo at Juventus until the player was 34-years-old and the two Italians have a very strong relationship between each other. Pirlo has even taken time to travel to London a few times this season to see Chelsea play at the Bridge.
Ray Wilkins told talkSPORT how he’s sure Conte wants to bring in the midfield maestro as his next assistant.
“Pirlo, the Italian, speaks English. He can come in tomorrow.
I know for a fact he’s been around Stamford Bridge a few times this season.
He’s the one I’m sure he wants to bring in.
He managed him until he was 34 at Juventus.”
