Chelsea battling United, City for Monaco star’s signature

According to Sky Sports, a trio of Premier League clubs – Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City – are all interested in signing AS Monaco full-back Benjamin Mendy.

The France international has been one of the team’s key players in Monaco’s title charge and Champions League campaign this season, and has therefore attracted plenty of interest from big clubs around Europe.

He made a £13m move from Marseille to the league leaders in the summer, and it’s understood that he’s current asking price is at least the double of that figure.

With Chelsea returning to the European Elite next season, Antonio Conte is determined to bolster his ranks and develop the squad depth, and currently he has no natural back-up for Marcos Alonso on the left-back position.

Monaco are close to their first Ligue 1 trophy in 17 years and will today face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, meaning that he’ll most unlikely leave his side for a club that’s not qualified for the European number one competition.
