Chelsea linked with Moussa Dembele despite Tammy Abraham success

It seems likely that Chelsea will sign a striker this summer. The Blues may or may not lose Diego Costa, but either way another option up top seems vital.

Tammy Abraham’s exceptional season in the Championship means that many have called for him to be promoted to the pain squad, but perhaps another season playing every week would be better for the youngster to continue his development.

An established Premier League forward like Romelu Lukaku would be an expensive move but would give the team what it needs: a player ready to step into the first team and either compete with or replace Costa.

That’s why a rumoured move for Dembele would not really make sense. Chelsea have a young player scoring goals at a level below that of the Premier League in Abraham, why spend tens of millions on another?

Unless, of course, the club think Dembele is so good that he can be an immediate first choice for Antonio Conte…
