Chelsea make club record £55m bid for Conte’s top target

Juventus have confirmed that Chelsea made a massive offer for left-back Alex Sandro, but even the money put forward by the West London club wasn’t enough to turn his head.

The wing back was an integral part of Max Allegri’s side’s run to the Champions League final, and since his move from Porto has developed into one of Europe’s top players in that position.

Juve’s general director Giuseppe Marotta is quoted in the Evening Standard as saying that Chelsea made a “very good offer” for the Brazilian, but he also insisted that the Old Lady wanted to keep hold of her best players, and that even such a significant offer from London would not change that.

The £55m sum that the paper reports would be a record signing for Chelsea, eclipsing the £50m spend on the ill-fated signing of Fernando Torres in January 2011. While it’s a lot of money, it also seems a reasonable amount for someone who appear to be a top tier talent.
