Sevilla had an up and down season this year, threatening at a moment to compete for the title before falling away badly, and then drifting through the final stages knowing that their manager would likely be departing.

One constant in that up-and-down was the form of pacy wide forward Vitolo. Over the course of the last couple of seasons he has shown this level of play consistently, and the Canarian showed everything for Jorge Sampaoli this season that Antonio Conte would want as competition for Pedro and Willian in the delicate position behind a striker in Chelsea’s 343. His work rate and commitment are excellent, he’s technically sound and a smart player tactically. Sampaoli even had him fill in at wing back at times this season, and he could excel in that role for Chelsea in the right situations, especially given the lack of cover for Moses at right-back. Serious damage with the former Las Palmas man’s speed on the break, and he could even link up with Moses down that side to great effect. He would be able to start runs from deep, latching onto David Luiz passes, and arriving on the overlap at speed.

With the potential of Alex Sandro on the other side now apparently becoming a possibility, it’s an enticing thought.
The 27 year old has a €40m (£28m) release clause and could probably be bought even cheaper than that. Bids for many of the top attackers the Blues are linked with would require a significantly larger investment, and mostly many sound overly ambitious to begin with. Vitolo would add pace and versatility to the squad, and would be an asset in a number of roles for Conte. Hazard’s injury means that cover in the attacking third is needed more than ever this year, and the addition of such quality could only benefit the team.
