Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed that both Tiemoue Bakayoko and David Luiz suffered an injury against AS Roma on Wednesday night. The Blues’ poor performance was tough enough to swallow, and it’s even worse to hear injury news after the game – especially when they once again consider our midfielders.
According to the Italian manager, Bakayoko played the whole ninety minutes with pain in his groin, while Luiz – who started the game as a defensive midfielder – was subbed off on the second half due to a calf injury.
In the post-match press conference Conte was questioned about David Luiz’s angry reaction to being subbed off for Pedro on the second half, and responded it was a change that had to be made to protect the player from a further injury while mixing up the formation.
“First of all, after the first half the doctor said he had a pain in his calf and same for Bakayoko with his groin. It was a good position to protect him. I changed the system and I preferred to change.
I have said I didn’t like the way we played tonight, but pushed deeper and had chances. We have three important players out. I am not looking for excuses. I tried an extra defender but the style and the football must always be the same.”

Chelsea are currently without Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante, which means the side can’t afford a single new injury hit at the moment. We can only hope that neither one of the two are unavailable for our next game against Watford on Saturday.
