“If Man City keep smashing people, then they will win the league deservedly” – Gary Cahill wants Chelsea fight but admits league leaders are strong

Chelsea are nine points off Manchester City in the title race, and Pep Guardiola’s side are relentless enough at the moment cause stirs in camps of title rivals, but Gary Cahill wants Chelsea to “calm down” and focus on their job.

The Blues came from behind to beat Watford last Saturday while Man City marched to a 3-0 victory over Burnley at the Etihad stadium.

Chelsea’s win was a hard fought one, that tells a variety of tales. One could be our resilience that lasted the entire game to secure all three points, another could be our inability to ward off goal threats from opposition these days. We seem to concede too many goals in recent matches, which should be of concern to Antonio Conte and his technical team.

Cahill sees light at the end of the tunnel though. The England centre back wants Chelsea to calm down and manage a repeat of last season’s recovery to fight back and launch a title assault.

“Last season we were eight points behind Man City and we managed to claw it back. I’m not saying it is going to happen, but we need to calm down and get back to it. We are champions of last season, in the middle of October, there are loads of games to play.

Man City have loads of tough games to play, Man United and everyone else have massive games to play. I still think it is open. If Man City keep smashing people, then they are going to go on and win the League deservedly.

It is difficult to maintain it for such a long period and if they do – or whoever does do that and it was us last year – they deserve to win the league.”
