Manchester United and PSG surge ahead of Chelsea in pursuit of €70m Brazilian

Chelsea chased Alex Sandro all of last summer, having already shown interest in the summer of 2016. But now it seems like that marathon chase is over, and the Blues won’t be the ones signing the Juve wing back.

Antonio Conte persuaded his board to lodge a €70m bid for the Brazilian last summer but Juve didn’t budge, and in the end the Blues ended the window without a backup for Marcos Alonso. They then went out and signed Emerson Palmieri in January, and while we’ve barely seen the Brazilian, it seems likely that that means the club considers that position filled for now.

Indeed Italian transfer site CalcioMercato now has both Manchester United and PSG ahead of the Blues in that particular race. PSG may be hamstrung a little by their massive spending on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, but Man U have shown no signs of slowing their spending.

It will be a tough blow to take for Blues fans if United complete a deal that Marina and the board singularly failed to get done over a period of more than 18 months.
