Barcelona line up Chelsea star but plan to play him out of position if signed

Chelsea should brace themselves for a bid from Barcelona for Marcos Alonso next summer, with reports from Spain suggesting the defender is one of a few targets the La Liga giants hope to bring in.

The La Liga champions elect are hoping to rebuild their defense with Gerard Pique ageing and depth needed across the line in order to return next season, fully furnished on all fronts.

Alonso, however will be deployed in the central defense position, according to the report by Goal, if Barcelona manage to convince him to leave Stamford Bridge, despite the fact he has not played in the center back position for over two years, with his last appearance there when he played for Fiorentina.

Antonio Conte has always used him in the left wing back position and Alonso has grown his importance to the team and the Premier League really well, being the only player from the Blues poor season to be selected in the PFA Team Of The Year this campaign.

Alonso has got some heritage at Barcelona though, with his father playing there about two decades ago, although he followed the footsteps of his grandfather to play at Real Madrid, where he emerged as an academy graduate.
