How Chelsea forward’s World Cup dream was rescued by Cobham doctor

Chelsea’s strikers are having a mixed World Cup campaign.

While Olivier Giroud has benefited hugely from Karim Benzema’s exclusion from France’s squad leaving him as a prime choice to lead the line, Alvaro Morata’s poor form at the Bridge has lead to him missing out on the Spain squad.
Michy Batshuayi is somewhere between the two. He was all lined up to go to Russia, despite barely playing for Chelsea. His success on loan at Dortmund seemed to have teed him up just in time – but an injury to his ankle suffered against Schalke seemed to have scuppered his hopes at the last minute.
His words in the press, as quoted on SportWitness, tell the full story of how Chelsea’s medical care gave him hope once again. He now looks like he’ll make it.

“He wanted to see me quickly. He wanted to make his own analysis. The German doctor wanted me to wear a boot and not put pressure on my foot for a few weeks. Chelsea’s told me: Take it off and try to walk.

“I managed without a problem, and I recovered at Chelsea, worked in water. I had to put everything on my side to get to the World Cup. As soon as I came off injured against Schalke, all I was thinking about was my return”.

It will be great to see Michy out there, and as long as he doesn’t score against England, we wish him all the best in Russia.
