Chelsea’s ageing star midfielder Cesc Fabregas has promised to help the club’s youngsters discover their true potential before winding down his contract.
The 30-year old Spain international is one of the most experienced players currently playing under Antonio Conte in the Blues first team, and has been instrumental in their success in the last few years since he signed from Barcelona.
Immediately after he arrived from the La Liga giants in summer of 2015 Fabregas catapulted Chelsea to the summit of the Premier League table, with his decisive and intricate passing drawing the best out of the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.
That creative spark can be harnessed and will be beneficial to last season’s champions’ young players who are also hungry for success, according to Fabregas, who now promises to use his experience in improving the current group of young midfielders in Chelsea’s first team and academy.
“Definitely [I try to help the younger players]. It’s good always to be surrounded by players who give you confidence and I think that’s important – when you are young, even me now after 15 years, I make mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, but when you know that you are young and that everyone is looking at you, maybe you have to see what you can do, show me what you can do.
You always wonder sometimes did I do well, did I do enough to prove myself, so it can cause a little bit of mental doubt. We need to be there for them, that’s 100 per cent sure. I was lucky enough to be, when I started, surrounded by fantastic players full of experience and that helped me a lot, I always said that I was very lucky to start with that winning Invincibles team. That helped me a lot, I have to do that for them as well.”
