Chelsea legend Frank Lampard could walk straight into management after a season of punditry after confirming he is speaking with a Championship side Derby County.
The former Blues midfielder had stints with Manchester City and New York City in United States’ Major League Soccer before taking a job as a pundit with BT Sport for their Champions League coverage this season.
Lampard has stated in the past his ambition to be manager one day after his playing career was over, much like John Terry has over the last few years, and may have taken cue from Zinedine Zidane’s tremendous success in his young managerial career, winning three successive Champions League titles.
Shortly after the Champions League final on Saturday, the 39-year old was asked about what his options were going forward and he quickly responded by saying he had ‘interest’ from Derby County, a club desperate for Premier League football after a ten-year absence.
“There’s been interest from Derby, I’ve been speaking to them. I’m ambitious and I want to become a manager at some point. It’s a big club, with big tradition and big history, which I really like.
We’ll carry on speaking when I go home and see.”
