AS Roma sporting director throws light on reported Chelsea bid for Kostas Manolas

Chelsea are yet to make a bid for new summer defensive target Kostas Manolas after AS Roma sporting director Monchi revealed the Blues have not made any bids yet.

After almost sealing a deal with Zenit Saint Petersburg last summer, Manolas remained at Roma and has been immense for them since.

He helped Roma stay within touching distance of the Serie A title until the final months of the campaign where they dropped below Napoli and Juventus. His efforts for the Serie A outfit have not gone unnoticed and Chelsea are reportedly very keen on bringing him to London this summer.

They are joined by Arsenal who also see him as the right material to add to their defense after signing Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus this summer.

However, Monchi maintains his Roma side are yet to receive any bids especially from Chelsea despite rumors the Blues are close to sealing the deal for the center back.

“I’ve spoken to Kostas three or four times, he enjoys my job and might make a decent director of football himself! He’s happy with the team and wants to stay. I’ve read that Chelsea want to pay the buyout clause, but I haven’t heard anything. I feel calm.”
