Chelsea switch attentions to €40m Italy international

Football Italia, a solid source for Serie A based rumours is leading the charge on the a new front for Chelsea.

After months of rumours about a bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, suddenly there’s been a change of tack.

Now sites all over have claims that it’s another Bianconeri defender who interests Maurizio Sarri and the club.

Mattia Caldara signed for Juve last summer but spent the season on loan at Atalanta, where he came through the youth system. He’s got an Italy cap and has looked very promising in an upwardly mobile Atalanta side.

He’s yet to make an appearance for his new club, and could be sold to Chelsea without so much as stepping on the pitch for the Turin club, if reports of our €40m bid are true.

There are just 11 days of the transfer window left, so it’s no surprise that we’re moving on from Rugani if a deal couldn’t be reached. But leaving deals half done and starting a new one is a certain way to end up in a panic come the end of the window.
